Bruce Braley Called For Raising The Social Security Retirement Age

DES MOINES – The Republican Party of Iowa is reminding voters that Washington liberal Bruce Braley has called for raising the Social Security retirement age.

As the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports:

“However, he’s willing to consider all options when it comes to ensuring the program’s long-term viability. … However, there aren’t many options he would rule out.  Braley called for ‘some modest adjustments.’  With life expectancy growing, raising the retirement age – similar to the adjustment made under the Reagan administration – might be necessary, Braley said.  (James Lynch, Braley Calls For `Some Modest Adjustments’ To Social Security, The Cedar Rapids Gazette, 10/20/06)

“Seniors should be worried, because Washington liberal Bruce Braley has called for raising the Social Security retirement age,” said Republican Party of Iowa spokesman Jahan Wilcox.  “Braley’s past comments for a higher Social Security retirement age is just another reason why our seniors can’t count on him.”

Bruce Braley has been in Washington for 8 years and was recently in Texas for a political fundraiser where he belittled Senator Chuck Grassley for being just a farmer, with no law degree.  Additionally, during the 112th Congress, Braley skipped 75 percent of the full Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearings.
