Media Advisory: GOP Convention Weekend Open to Reporters 

DES MOINES – Iowa Republicans will gather in Des Moines this weekend for a series of events surrounding the Party’s state convention. The events are open to the media.

The weekend kicks off with a celebration of the Constitution, Friday, June 25 with special guests Congressman Ron Paul and New York Times bestselling author Tom Woods. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7. Reporters should check in at the media registration table.

Saturday, as many as 2,000 delegates will attend the Party’s state convention. Doors open at 8 a.m. and the convention begins at 10 a.m. Reporters should check in at the media registration table by 9:45 a.m.

Below is a timeline of events, all open to credentialed media:

Friday:

5:30 p.m. Doors open for Celebration of the Constitution featuring Congressman Ron Paul, Author Tom Woods. 6:30 p.m. dinner, 7 p.m. program

Saturday:

9:45 a.m. – Media registration deadline.

10 a.m. – Noon Sen. Grassley, Gov. Terry Branstad, the Lieutenant Governor nominee and Congressman Tom Latham are expected to speak at the state convention.

Noon – 1 p.m. Former Sen. Rick Santorum will address convention delegates during a luncheon, hosted by TheIowaRepublican.com.

1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Congressman Steve King, along with our other GOP congressional and statewide candidates, will speak after lunch.

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Attorney General Nominee Brenna Findley to host Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

Note: In addition to candidate speeches and platform discussion, convention delegates will vote on a proposed amendment that would increase the number of State Central Committee members from three per district to four, if Iowa loses a congressional seat following the census.     

All events take place at Hy-Vee Hall, 730 3RD Street, Des Moines.

Media wishing to attend any of these events should request credentials with Iowa GOP Communications Director Danielle Plogmann at dplogmann@iowagop.org no later than noon Friday, June 25. Please indicate which events you are planning to attend.
