Iowa GOP: More Evidence of Culver Failing Iowans

Latest Unemployment Figures Illustrate Culver legacy of more debt, fewer jobs

DES MOINES – Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn today said the latest unemployment figures are more evidence that Governor Chet Culver continues to fail Iowans. Unemployment figures released today shows Iowa’s unemployment rate at 6.8% for June, up significantly from 6% one year ago.

“Iowa’s unemployment rate is still higher today than it was a year ago, despite Culver’s so-called I-JOBS, which Democrats are still insisting will create 30,000 jobs. In reality, more than 17,000 additional Iowans have lost their jobs since Culver signed I-JOBS into law in May 2009,” Strawn said.

“Chet Culver’s big borrowing, big spending, big government plan has clearly failed, and it’s time to elect a governor who gets it. Terry Branstad will turn this state around, and he won’t do it by piling decades of debt onto our children,” Strawn concluded.
