Boswell’s Weakness Highlighted by Clinton Visit

Zaun poised to deliver 3rd District seat to the GOP

DES MOINES – Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn today called former President Bill Clinton’s fundraising trip to Norwalk the latest sign that national Democrats rightly view incumbent Congressman Leonard Bowell in serious danger of losing this November.

Clinton’s fundraising visit comes just days after news that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) reserved $336,000 in central Iowa television air time to defend the liberal incumbent.  The only poll released after the June 8 primary shows Boswell trailing Urbandale Republican Brad Zaun.

Strawn said, “The reason that Democrats are trying to save Leonard Boswell is the same reason that he’s in trouble with Iowa voters. Boswell has been a consistent, reliable vote for Nancy Pelosi’s liberal Washington agenda. He voted for the failed stimulus bill, he supported the disastrous cap and trade energy tax, and he voted for the government takeover of our health care system.

“Leonard Boswell has abandoned the people of Iowa for people like Nancy Pelosi. It’s no surprise that less than 30% of his donations have come from individual citizens, while the rest comes from special interest PACs and committees. The majority of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District won’t support Boswell financially and they won’t support him on Election Day.

“No amount of money raised today will change Boswell’s reputation with Iowa voters. Iowans realize that Leonard Boswell is part of the problem, and Brad Zaun is offering common-sense, limited government solutions to improving the lives of Iowans.”
