Via NRSC: Democrats created, used and exploited the term, “War on Women” for political purposes for the better part of a year. Now that their own party is plagued with multiple sexual harassment scandals, Washington Democrats are heading for the hills when asked about their Democratic colleagues’ actual mistreatment of women. This is hypocrisy at its finest.
While Democrats mistreat women:
Former longtime Congressman and current San Diego Mayor Bob Filner “has faced anonymous allegations that he harassed ‘numerous’ women.” McCormack Jackson, Filner’s former Communications Director, “is the first woman to come forward publicly to accuse Filner”. Gloria Allred (Jackson’s attorney) “said that Filner had asked McCormack Jackson to ‘work without her panties on,’ placed her in a headlock and told her that he wanted to consummate their relationship, among other incidents of harassment.”
Eliot Spitzer, former New York Governor, now running for comptroller of New York City was “caught spending a lot of time and a big wad of money on a dark-haired young call girl.” Jake Tapper of CNN explains it was “incredibly reckless and perhaps more importantly, it was very illegal…a class E felony, paying for sex, a law [Spitzer] signed, bumping it up to class E.”
Former Congressman and New York City Mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner “engaged in ‘several inappropriate’ electronic relationships with six women over three years, and…publicly lied about a photo of himself sent over Twitter to a college student in Seattle”. Just yesterday news broke that he did it again after resigning from Congress.
Speaker of the New York State Assembly Sheldon Silver “stood by as [Assemblyman] Vito Lopez groped and abused women…The report on Assemblyman Vito Lopez’s victimization of young women staff members indisputably nails Silver as a participant in a coverup that enabled Lopez to continue subjecting female aides to gross conduct, including assault.”
How have prominent Democrats responded?
“The people will take care of it and I just should stay out,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein said.
“What goes on in San Diego, is up to the people of San Diego. I’m not here to make any judgments or even be fully versed on what happened there. My colleagues, who do represent San Diego, have made their statements on the subject. But that’s all I will say about that,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
At least it’s a better response than U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s apathetic eye roll:
New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney sarcastically said “that’s an excellent question, I’ll get back to you,” when asked if she thought Weiner and Spitzer hurt the Democrats’ messaging with women. “No seriously, excellent question,” she said, rolling her eyes.
So where is Bruce Braley? If Braley is serious about the “War on Women” and ending sexual harassment in government, whether it be in local government, the military, the State Department, or any other workplace for that matter, then why doesn’t he have the courage to speak out against his fellow Democrats including Bob Filner, Anthony Weiner, Eliot Spitzer, or Hillary Clinton’s leadership of the State Department? Is it simply the fact that this misconduct involved Democrats that prohibits Braley from speaking out?
“If Bruce Braley wants to prevent the real ‘war on women,’ he should speak out against the misconduct of his Democratic colleagues,” said Brook Hougesen, NRSC spokeswoman. “Unfortunately, Bruce Braley only seems interested in talking about the so called ‘war on women,’ if it serves his own political interests and liberal agenda, and that is a disservice to all women.”
