Ernst & Braley Tied
Good morning folks –
Wanted to make sure you saw this NBC/Marist poll that has Iowa’s Joni Ernst tied at 43 percent with liberal trial lawyer Bruce Braley.
This poll is especially bad for Braley, given that since the primary Democrat outside groups have outspent Republicans by a 2-1 margin. With Braley and his far-left allies outspending us, this poll proves that Iowans aren’t buying their false attacks because they share Joni’s values of less spending, lower taxes and more jobs.

- Republican Outside Groups Have Spent $755,175 For Joni Ernst Since The Primary. (U.S. Senate Spending Snapshot From June 2, 2014 To July 11, 2014, Target Enterprise, Accessed 07/16/14)
Finally, with momentum building behind Joni Ernst, let’s not forget that since Braley made his elitist remark against Senator Grassley for being a farmer who never went to law school, his poll numbers have consistently been stuck in the low 40s.
NBC/Marist Poll Has Braley And Ernst Tied
A new NBC/Marist poll shows the Iowa Senate race between Republican Joni Ernst and Democrat Bruce Braley is neck and neck. The poll shows both Ernst and Braley have 43% of registered voters. But, those numbers don’t tell the whole story. 14% of voters are undecided and one-third said they’re unsure of their opinion about the candidates or never heard of them.
Looking deeper into the numbers, both Braley and Ernst are polarizing. Braley gets positive marks from 36 percent of voters and a negative rating of 32 percent. Ernst’s fav/unfav rating is 38 percent to 33 percent.
Gender matters, too, in this poll. Braley gets the female vote, 45% to 38%. Ernst gets the male vote, 48% to 40%.
“Any way you slice the numbers, you end up with a close race,” said Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll for NBC News. “This is one that bears watching as the campaign unfolds.”
The poll also looked at Iowa’s Governor’s race. Republican Governor Terry Branstad is leading in the polls over challenger Jack Hatch, 53% to 38%. Iowa voters like Branstad. Almost six-in-10 say they approve of his job performance.
The Iowa poll was conducted July 7-13 of 1,599 registered voters, and has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
