Bruce Braley Blasted The Chamber Of Commerce Over Tort Reform
DES MOINES – In an effort to help trial lawyers, Bruce Braley proudly penned an op-ed in the San Jose Mercury News, where he ruthlessly attacked the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over tort reform. Braley claimed that tort reform was an all-out attack on trial lawyers.
“The Chamber of Commerce helps small businesses across our state, yet Bruce Braley views them as the enemy because they want to limit frivolous lawsuits,” said Iowa Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann. “Braley’s decision to fight for frivolous lawsuits tells you everything about his priorities.”
In 1998, Braley Wrote An Op-Ed Criticizing The U.S. Chamber Of Commerce’s Campaign For Tort Reform As An “All-Out Attack On Trial Lawyers”
In February 1998, Braley Wrote An Op-Ed Criticizing The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Tort Reform Campaign As An “All-Out Attack On Trial Lawyers.” “The stories described how Washington’s largest business lobbying group — the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — is planning its most expensive public relations campaign ever: ‘an all-out attack on trial lawyers.’ Because I am a trial lawyer this attack is aimed directly at me and the clients I represent.” (Bruce Braley, Op-Ed, “Attack on Trial Lawyers Will Benefit Big Business,” San Jose Mercury News 2/11/98)
Braley Claimed Tort Reform Efforts Threaten America’s Justice System And “The Real Victims” Will Be Consumers. “But the truth is, while the Chamber of Commerce may be aiming its slings and arrows at the legal profession, its real target is America’s system of justice. And that’s why the real victims in this campaign will be consumers.” (Bruce Braley, Op-Ed, “Attack on Trial Lawyers Will Benefit Big Business,” San Jose Mercury News 2/11/98)
Braley: “I Will Also Oppose The Misguided Efforts Of The U.S. Chamber And Its Allies To Take Away My Clients’ Rights Under The Guise Of Attacking My Profession.” (Bruce Braley, Op-Ed, “Attack on Trial Lawyers Will Benefit Big Business,” San Jose Mercury News 2/11/98)
Bruce Braley has been in Washington for 8 years and was recently in Texas for a political fundraiser where he belittled Senator Chuck Grassley for being just a farmer, with no law degree. Additionally, during the 112th Congress, Braley skipped 75 percent of the full Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearings.
