Bruce Braley’s ObamaCare Limits Choices For Seniors
21,000 Iowa Seniors Were Forced To Change Their Healthcare Plan Due To ObamaCare

DES MOINES – Washington liberal Bruce Braley told Iowans that under ObamaCare they could keep their current healthcare provider, yet seniors in Marshall Country are learning that if they want access to the county’s only hospital, there’s only one plan that will accept them.

This is a drastic change, as before Braley’s ObamaCare was enacted, Marshall County seniors had 10 different plans to chose from.

As the Marshalltown Times-Republican reports:

“Rohde said the biggest impact from a patient standpoint will come from the reduced choices of network plans. In particular, of the five plans options currently available in Marshall County, only one includes the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, the county’s only hospital. ‘There is no more choice in Marshall County. It’s gone, unless you want to go to a different hospital,’ Rohde said. ‘There were probably 10 different insurance companies with multiple options in 2010 and in 2009 I think there were more than that.’” (Ken Black, “Medicare Advantage Clients Being Dropped In Iowa,” Times-Republican, 10/18/10)

“For seniors hoping to be seen at Marshalltown Medical Center, there’s only one healthcare plan they can pick from and that’s due to Bruce Braley’s ObamaCare,”said Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann.  “After severely limiting the healthcare choices available for seniors, why would seniors ever trust Bruce Braley?”

BACKGROUND …

In March 2010, Braley Voted For ObamaCare. (H.R. 3590, CQ Vote #165: Motion agreed to, thus clearing the bill for the president 219-212: R 0-178; D 219-34, 3/21/10, Braley Voted Yea)

Braley Said ObamaCare Would “Allow Americans To Maintain Their Choice Of Health Insurance.” BRALEY: “This bill will decrease health insurance costs, expand access to quality, affordable health care, improve reimbursements for Iowa medical providers and allow Americans to maintain their choice of health insurance.” (Rep. Bruce Braley, “Braley Statement On House Passage Of Health Care Reform,” Press Release, 11/8/09)

ObamaCare Has Severely Limited The Healthcare Choices For Iowa Seniors. “Rohde said the biggest impact from a patient standpoint will come from the reduced choices of network plans. In particular, of the five plan options currently available in Marshall County, only one includes the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, the county’s only hospital. ‘There is no more choice in Marshall County. It’s gone, unless you want to go to a different hospital,’ Rohde said. ‘There were probably 10 different insurance companies with multiple options in 2010 and in 2009.’” (Ken Black, “Medicare Advantage Clients Being Dropped In Iowa,” Times-Republican, 10/18/10)

As A Result Of ObamaCare, More Than 21,000 Seniors Had To Change Their Healthcare Plans. “More than 21,000 Iowans are being forced to change their Medicare Advantage plans, after a handful of carriers have decided to drop their coverage in the state. That number includes 580 Medicare Advantage subscribers in Marshall County, which represents nearly 80 percent of the county’s total enrolled in Medicare Advantage plan.” (Ken Black, “Medicare Advantage Clients Being Dropped In Iowa,” Times-Republican, 10/18/10)

Bruce Braley has been in Washington for 8 years and was recently in Texas for a political fundraiser where he belittled Senator Chuck Grassley for being just a farmer, with no law degree.  Additionally, during the 112th Congress, Braley skipped 75 percent of the full Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearings.
