RPI Statement on Election of New Iowa House Minority Leader
Republican Party of Iowa Co-Chairman Dr. Cody Hoefert released the following statement in response to the House Democrats’ election of a new Minority Leader:
“Today, the Iowa House Democrats selected Todd Prichard as their new Minority Leader. After more than five years of lackluster leadership under Representative Smith, the Party of Des Moines now has a failed gubernatorial candidate leading their statewide effort to reclaim the House.
“On Election Day, voters in every corner of the state made clear they don’t support Democrats’ empty rhetoric and government-first agenda. This is why House Democrats only represent less than a fourth of Iowa’s 99 counties – a vast majority of these being urban districts. No wonder they chose one of their caucus’ last surviving rural Democrats for the post.
“Iowans want to continue down the path Republicans have paved – a path of lower taxes, higher wages, and skills training that prepares workers for 21st century jobs. Rep. Prichard would be wise to learn from past mistakes, and hopefully his caucus will work with Republicans to continue creating these opportunities for all Iowans.”
