DES MOINES - Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann released the following statement regarding the AP's article about a shadow Democrat-backed group taking advantage of disabled and retired Trump supporters to siphon votes away from Republicans:

"In a truly despicable act, a Democrat-backed group knowingly took advantage of disabled or retired Trump supporters - who are often veterans - to run as Independents in swing districts to pull votes away from Republicans and help Democrats. Patriots Run Project, the Democrat group responsible, should be ashamed of their dirty tactics and for taking advantage of people to try and cheat their way to victory for the Democrats. The Democrats know they cannot beat Rep. Nunn in IA-03 on merit or policy with their weak candidate Lanon Baccam, so instead they resort to dirty tricks and cheating. The media needs to ask the question: how much did Lanon Baccam and his campaign know about this scam?"
