DES MOINES, Iowa -- Despite increasing instances of shootingsrioting and looting, and violence against law enforcement, several Democrats have decided that now is the best time to take funding away from police forces across the country. This includes their presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden, who has said we should “absolutely” look at diverting funding away from police departments.

With the election less than 100 days away, Iowans deserve to know: Does Abby Finkenauer support the “defund the police” movement?

To date, Absent Abby has been silent on calls from her Democratic colleagues to defund or abolish the police. Instead of representing Iowans and standing up for the men and women who keep our communities safe, she has remained silent to appease those in the Democratic Party who want to slash police funding. Her failure to take a stand puts Iowa police departments and the communities they serve at risk.

On the other hand, Ashley Hinson has championed public safety and stood with law enforcement every step of the way. Calling efforts to defund the police “absurd,” Hinson recognized that the vast majority of law enforcement officers are “good people who want to protect their communities.”

“Absent Abby’s silence on the ‘defund the police’ movement shows she can’t be trusted to back our law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe,” said Aaron Britt, Communications Director for the Republican Party of Iowa. “Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson is committed to standing up for law enforcement. This is the kind of leadership Iowans in the first district deserve.”
