Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann released the following statement in response to Andrea Phillips' announcement for House District 37: 

"The family of John Landon is hurting and Ankeny residents continue to mourn the loss of their local legislator. Meanwhile, Andrea Phillips and Iowa Democrats couldn't even wait for John Landon's funeral to occur before announcing her candidacy. This is truly politics at its worst. 

"The bitter defeat of Phillips and Democrats never went away after the last election, and they showed disdain for John - even when he was battling a heartbreaking disease like cancer. Andrea Phillips has put her need for power and campaign politics ahead of human decency. It should immediately disqualify her from serving the citizens of Ankeny. Let John's family grieve peacefully. There will be time for politics later."
