Mary Mosiman – State Auditor
Mary was appointed Auditor of State by Governor Terry Branstad on May 13, 2013, following the resignation of State Auditor David Vaudt, who was named Chairman of GASB.
Mary was elected as the Story County Auditor in 2000. The Story County Auditor serves as the County’s Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility over the County budget. She served the people of Story County for 10 years before becoming a Deputy Secretary of State at the Iowa Office of Secretary of State.
Mary graduated from Iowa State University in 1999 with Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Accounting. She obtained her CPA certification shortly thereafter.
Prior to becoming Auditor, Mary owned and operated a daycare business for over 5 years. Before that she spent 5+ years as an accounting assistant at ALMACO, a local Nevada company that manufactures specialized agricultural research equipment.
Mary’s professional organizations include the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants (ISCPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT).
Mary has served on several community and civic organization boards and committees, including the Iowa State Association of Counties Taxation & Finance Committee, the US Military Academy Selection Board, the Story County United Way Nevada Community Committee, the Ames Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, the Ames Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants, and the Gilbert Education Foundation. She is a past-president of the Nevada Rotary Club. She is an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames.
Born and raised on a farm in Hubbard, Iowa, Mary came to Ames in 1980. She and her husband Dan are the proud parents of 4 daughters. Mary’s hobbies include music, running, an occasional golf game, and spending time with family and friends.
