DES MOINES — Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann issued the following statement regarding Michael Franken joining the crowded Senate Democratic primary field:

“The Democratic primary for Senate just got more crowded and more contentious as Michael Franken enters the race. Franken now joins a field that finds itself in a race to the far left, embracing the values of coastal elites — including socialized medicine and policies that would destroy our agricultural economy. 

“While this liberal circus continues on the left, Iowans know that no one has fought harder for them than Joni Ernst, who continues to criss-cross the state, listening to Iowans and taking their concerns to Washington.”
