Iowa GOP Releases Statements on the Sudden Passing of Bill Northey
DES MOINES – Republican Party of Iowa released the following statements in response to the sudden passing of former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey:
Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann:
“The Republican Party of Iowa mourns the sudden and untimely passing of Bill Northey. Bill was a dedicated public servant, hardworking farmer, and beloved father, grandfather, and husband. Bill's commitment to Iowa's agricultural industry, and his tireless efforts to promote it, have left an indelible mark on our state.
“In 2007, Bill and I sat in the landmark Cove restaurant in eastern Iowa. He asked me to endorse him in his primary and he convinced me that I should put my faith and trust in a farmer from northwest Iowa. I remember clearly why I made the decision to support him—his authenticity and integrity. He was one of the finest in public life I have ever met.
“As a stalwart member of the Republican Party, Bill Northey exemplified the values of hard work, resilience, and a deep-seated love for the land. Throughout his tenure as Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture, Bill championed policies that supported our farmers, bolstered rural economies, and ensured the long-term viability of our agricultural industry.
“His legacy extends far beyond the boundaries of his political office; Bill's warmth, approachability, and genuine concern for the well-being of this state and Iowans will be his legacy. We are truly saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and his family during this difficult time.”
Republican Party of Iowa Co-Chair Linda Upmeyer:
“The Republican Party of Iowa extends our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s wife, Cindy, his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
“I had the pleasure of working with Bill many times and I know his contributions to Iowa agriculture will reverberate for generations to come.
“Bill was a friend to Iowans, often reaching out with an encouraging word or an act of sacrifice. Bill had a sparkle in his eye and a bright smile that came easily. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. This is a deep and shocking loss. It is hard to think of anyone who was kinder and more compassionate than Bill.
