Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann released the following statement in response to Joe Biden calling on Congress to suspend the gas tax: 

"Just as Obama said in 2008, a gas tax holiday is a 'gimmick' for Democrats to pat themselves on the back. It will do nothing to help Iowa families who are struggling to fill up their tanks.

"If Joe Biden and Cindy Axne cared about lowering gas prices, they would unleash the power of American energy. Instead, they continue to lower supply and destroy our energy independence."
