Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann released the following statement in response to the State Legislature voting down the first proposed redistricting map:

"As I have said since the beginning of this process, Iowans can have the confidence that this process will be transparent and fair for every Iowan. Voting up or down on this proposed map is a part of the process and neither is unprecedented. For any legislator to claim differently proves their ignorance of state law and the process they desperately value.

"It is the duty of each state legislator to come to a decision based on feedback they receive and vote accordingly. Now, a decision has been made and the process will move to the next step in accordance with the law."
